Sexual Harassmment Awareness Day (SHAD)
Sexism and sexual harassment are a reality in the Swiss higher education landscape. The nationwide Sexual Harassment Awareness Day for a harassment-free university environment will take place on 29 April 2025.
The following events will take place in this context (organised by the Office for Equal Opportunities and the SHAD Network):
Information and discussion event on the topic of “First Generation in the Academic Landscape“
What does it mean to be the first in the family to study - and to navigate the academic world?
This event is dedicated to the experiences, opportunities and challenges of so-called first generation students and researchers - i.e. people who are the first in their family to pursue an academic career.
After an academic input by Prof. Rolf Becker, (University of Bern, expert in the subject) and a contribution on structural options for action by Stéphanie Voser (University of Fribourg, head of the project Selectivity based on social origins), a panel discussion will follow with the two speakers and members of the University of Bern who are themselves first generation: Prof Dr Mirko Schmidt (Institute of Sports Science), MSc. Jasmin Aebi (PhD student, Institute of Psychology), Kobika Baier (student, Institute of Educational Science)
